SRINAGAR: Panic erupted at Kashmir University on Friday evening after a black bear strayed into the girls’ hostel area, prompting students to stay indoors and triggering an immediate response from authorities.
Witnesses said the bear was first seen near the Sadrabal side, walking along the footpath before being chased by stray dogs. In an attempt to escape, the bear climbed an electric pole, leapt over a wall and entered the girls’ hostels, causing alarm among students.
University officials alerted the Wildlife Department, which launched a search operation to track and safely trap the animal. By the time teams arrived, the bear had moved out of the main hostel zone.
