New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held talks with his Nepalese counterpart, Arzu Rana Deuba, in New Delhi, reaffirming the strong and enduring partnership between India and Nepal.
During the meeting, Dr. Jaishankar virtually handed over 72 health facilities and 12 cultural heritage projects completed under India’s post-earthquake reconstruction programme in Nepal. The projects are part of India’s continued support for Nepal’s recovery and rebuilding efforts following the devastating 2015 earthquake.
In a significant step towards enhancing financial connectivity between the two neighbouring countries, the two leaders jointly launched the linkage between India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Nepal’s National Payments Interface. The integration will facilitate seamless cross-border personal remittances, benefiting individuals and strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
The ministers also witnessed the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Digital India Bhashini and Kathmandu University. The agreement aims to jointly develop Nepal’s National Digital Infrastructure for a “Voice First” Language Translation Platform, promoting digital inclusion and enabling easier access to multilingual services.
The initiatives underscore the growing cooperation between India and Nepal across sectors including healthcare, cultural preservation, digital innovation, and financial technology, further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
