April 25, 2025-In a solemn moment of tribute, President Droupadi Murmu of India visited the Basilica of Saint Peter in Vatican City on Friday to pay homage to the late Pope Francis. Accompanied by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State George Kurian, and Deputy Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly Joshua D’Souza, President Murmu marked the occasion as part of her two-day visit to attend Pope Francis’s state funeral and extend condolences on behalf of the Government and people of India.

The visit was a significant gesture acknowledging Pope Francis’s global influence within the Catholic community and across all faiths. The President’s homage highlighted India’s recognition of Pope Francis’s tireless work for peace, unity, and moral leadership in an increasingly fragmented world.

President Murmu’s visit underscored the long-standing relationship between India and the Vatican, rooted in mutual respect and shared values of compassion, service, and humanitarian efforts. During the visit, she was seen in a quiet moment of reflection, paying respects to Pope Francis’s legacy.
