Srinagar, June 16:
In a significant move to bolster tribal research and policy development in Jammu and Kashmir, Tribal Affairs Minister Javed Ranaa on Sunday chaired a high-level review meeting focused on strengthening the Tribal Research Institute (TRI).

During the meeting, Minister Ranaa underscored the pivotal role of the TRI in advancing tribal welfare, socio-economic development, and cultural preservation. He called for a comprehensive roadmap to transform the institute into a premier centre of research, innovation, and excellence in tribal affairs.

To achieve this, the minister emphasized the need for robust infrastructure development, engagement of reputed consultants, and timely submission of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). He directed officials to study successful TRI models from other states and explore the replication of best practices tailored to J&K’s tribal landscape.

“The Tribal Research Institute must evolve into a knowledge hub that informs policy, supports grassroots initiatives, and empowers tribal communities through data-driven planning,” Ranaa stated.

He also stressed inter-departmental coordination and academic partnerships to enhance the institute’s research capabilities, training modules, and outreach programs. The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive development and sustainable empowerment of Scheduled Tribe communities across the Union Territory.

Officials from the Tribal Affairs Department, senior researchers, and planning experts attended the meeting.
