Srinagar, Sep 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday flagged off the Valley’s first dedicated parcel train from Budgam to Adarsh Nagar, New Delhi, aimed at providing faster and economical transport for apples and other perishables.Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “ushering in a new era of trade and business,” Sinha said the service will reduce transit time, minimize losses due to highway disruptions, and boost farmers’ incomes by ensuring daily shipments.Introduced under the Joint Parcel Product-Rapid Cargo Service, the eight-coach train has a capacity of 180 tonnes. It departs Budgam at 6:15 a.m., halts at Bari Brahmana in Jammu, and reaches Delhi at 5:30 a.m. the next day.
Officials said full van bookings will be available online, while smaller consignments can be booked offline.The event was attended by senior officials from the Railways, civil administration, and police, including Agriculture Minister Javid Ahmad Dar and Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar.
