Srinagar, Sept 15: Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday voiced concern over the plight of Kashmir’s fruit growers, saying the government’s “apathy” is pushing their year’s hard work to ruin.
Taking to X, Mirwaiz said he was “deeply pained” that fruit-laden trucks remain stranded for days on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, leaving produce to rot.
He urged authorities to ensure unhindered passage of trucks on priority to save growers from further losses and distress.Fruit cultivation is a key sector of Kashmir’s economy, sustaining thousands of families. Growers have repeatedly decried frequent highway restrictions during harvest season.
