SRINAGAR: Police in Pampore have apprehended three individuals after seizing narcotic substances from their possession during a naka checking operation at Laterbal, near the gas plant.

The accused have been identified as Ashfaq Ahmad Khanday, son of Ghulam Qadir, a resident of Wuyan; Muhammad Maqbool Rather, son of Abdul Ahad, a resident of Pustona Tral; and Abid Hussain Khan, son of Nazir Ahmad Khan, a resident of Larow Tral.

During the search, officers recovered 725 grams of bhang chura and 25 grams of a charas-like substance from the suspects.

Police said the arrests highlight the Awantipora Police’s continued drive against drug trafficking and abuse in the area. Locals have been urged to assist law enforcement by providing information about any drug-related activities, with officials assuring that informants’ identities will be kept strictly confidential.

Following the recovery, a case under FIR No. 119/2025 has been registered at Police Station Pampore under Sections 8/20/29 of the NDPS Act, and investigations are underway to trace the origin and supply network of the seized contraband.
