KARGIL, Aug 9 : A three-day hunger strike began in Kargil on Saturday, demanding statehood for Ladakh, inclusion under the Sixth Schedule, separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil, and a public service commission.
Organised by the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and Leh Apex Body (LAB) at Hussani Park, the protest is part of a five-year agitation. Banners at the venue read, “Together, we can build a future where Ladakh governs Ladakh”, while placards called for an end to “colonial treatment” and the restoration of democracy.KDA co-chairman Asgar Ali Karbalai said the government had repeatedly assured talks but failed to act.
Sajjad Kargili accused authorities of breaking promises and urged peaceful resolution of the demands.
