Srinagar, Aug 9: Two Army personnel and three militants were killed in an ongoing encounter in Kulgam’s Akhal forest, now in its ninth day, making it one of the Valley’s longest recent operations. Two more soldiers sustained injuries.
The Army paid tribute to Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh for their “supreme sacrifice,” vowing their bravery would remain an inspiration.
DGP Nalin Prabhath, overseeing the operation, attributed the delay to dense forest terrain. Security forces, acting on inputs about five militants—three of them foreign fighters trained in jungle warfare—have deployed drones, helicopters, and para commandos to track the remaining suspects.
The encounter follows last week’s killing of three Pakistani militants involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives.
