SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday joined thousands of Shia mourners in Srinagar for the Youm-e-Ashura Zuljanah procession.

The procession, marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, began from Ali Pora, Botakadal, and proceeded to Zadibal amid tight security and extensive arrangements.

On arrival, the LG offered water to mourners and ceremoniously draped the symbolic Zuljanah, representing the horse of Imam Hussain (AS), with a traditional chaddar.

Thousands, including men, women, and children, marched alongside the Zuljanah, performing chest-beating and reciting nohas.

Volunteers, civil society groups, and government departments had set up stalls providing water, tea, and food.

Senior officials, including the IGP Kashmir, SSP Srinagar, and DC Srinagar, oversaw the arrangements. Traffic diversions and heavy deployment of security ensured a smooth procession, which will culminate at the Zadibal Imambargah in the afternoon.
