SRINAGAR: Srinagar recorded a sweltering 37.4°C on Saturday, making it the hottest July day in 71 years, according to Kashmir Weather and the Meteorological Centre.

This temperature is just below the second-highest July record of 37.7°C set on July 5, 1953, and ranks as the third-highest July temperature since records began in 1892.

The all-time July high remains 38.3°C, recorded on July 10, 1946.

The soaring temperature reflects the intensity of the ongoing heatwave gripping the region.
