AHMEDABAD, April 26: In one of the largest crackdowns of its kind, more than 1,000 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, including women and children, were detained during extensive combing operations carried out in Ahmedabad and Surat, Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, announced on Saturday.
According to officials, 890 individuals were apprehended in Ahmedabad and 134 in Surat. Sanghavi described the operation as the biggest ever undertaken by Gujarat Police against illegal immigrants.
The minister issued a stern warning, urging all undocumented immigrants residing in the state to voluntarily surrender to the authorities. “Those who fail to do so will be identified, detained, and deported,” he said.
Efforts are currently underway to initiate the deportation process for those detained, he added.
