New Delhi: The government on Sunday convened an all-party meeting ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament, bringing together leaders from across parties to discuss the upcoming legislative agenda. The session, which begins Monday and concludes on December 19, will have only 15 sittings — making it one of the shortest winter sessions in recent years. Fourteen bills are expected to be taken up.

Opposition parties raised several issues they intend to highlight in both Houses, including the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, the recent blast in Delhi, and key foreign policy matters. The Congress later criticised the government, alleging that the truncated schedule indicated an attempt to “derail parliamentary functioning.”

Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju held separate consultations with floor leaders. He appealed for constructive, disruption-free debates, saying, “Since it’s winter, we hope everyone keeps a cool head. Calm discussions will help the nation and ensure smooth proceedings.”

A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee was also slated later in the evening to finalise the agenda for both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
