Guwahati, April 29, 2025 — In a significant development following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed that at least 27 individuals have been arrested across the state for allegedly “defending Pakistan on Indian soil.”

Speaking to reporters, CM Sarma stated that the arrests were made in connection with social media posts and other public expressions that were interpreted as sympathetic to Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror incident. “We are taking strict action against any anti-national activities. Assam will not be a place for people who glorify terrorism or our enemies,” he asserted.

The arrests come amid heightened national security concerns and follow a string of previous crackdowns in Assam on individuals suspected of involvement in extremist activities.
