Srinagar, April 29: CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Monday said that closing tourism destinations in the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam Attack would further harm Kashmir’s already struggling tourism sector.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Tarigami remarked, “Shutting down tourist destinations doesn’t make much sense. The Pahalgam attack has already dealt a major setback to the tourism industry in Kashmir.”
He expressed optimism that visitors would continue to travel to the region despite recent incidents. “I am hopeful that those who have been visiting Kashmir will continue to do so,” he said.
Tarigami also emphasized the importance of restoring trust between the Government of India and the Union Territory. “There is a need to remove the trust deficit between the Government of India and Jammu & Kashmir,” he added.
The remarks come amid concerns over the impact of recent violence on the Valley’s vital tourism economy, which is just beginning to recover from years of disruptions.
