Srinagar : A 60-year-old man lost his life while seven others, including several children, were admitted to hospital after reportedly consuming a wild vegetable in Rajouri district, officials said on Saturday.

According to officials, the incident occurred in Mohra village of the Kotranka subdivision on Friday afternoon. Members of two families allegedly ate a wild plant-based vegetable meal, following which they began experiencing symptoms believed to be linked to food poisoning later in the evening.

The affected individuals were initially rushed to the Community Health Centre in Kandi for medical assistance. Due to the seriousness of their condition, all eight patients were later shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Rajouri for advanced treatment.

Officials said Mohammad Hussain, aged 60, succumbed during treatment at the hospital. The remaining seven patients are currently under medical supervision, and doctors are closely monitoring their condition.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the suspected poisoning.
