SRINAGAR, May 10: Panic gripped Srinagar city early Saturday morning after loud explosions were heard and a missile-like object landed deep inside the iconic Dal Lake, officials said.According to eyewitnesses and local authorities, the object caused a loud splash and was followed by thick smoke billowing from the lake’s surface. The incident occurred shortly after a series of explosions rattled several parts of the city.
Security forces and emergency teams rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area. Authorities have yet to confirm the nature and origin of the object, but investigations are underway.Dal Lake, a major tourist attraction and cultural landmark in the Kashmir Valley, remained off-limits to visitors for several hours as bomb disposal squads and divers scanned the area.
No casualties or damage to property have been reported so far. Officials said further details will be shared after a thorough examination.The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region, following military escalations between India and Pakistan.
