Srinagar, Oct 10: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review and strategize measures for enhancing milk and mutton production in Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on value addition, entrepreneurship, and rural growth.
During the meeting, Dulloo emphasized the importance of strengthening the dairy and sheep husbandry sectors to meet local demand and promote sustainable livelihoods. He directed the Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department (APD) to expand Artificial Insemination (AI) coverage, establish semen stations, and set up Embryo Transfer Technology (ETT) laboratories across the Union Territory.
The Chief Secretary said these initiatives would not only improve productivity and genetic quality of livestock but also generate employment opportunities and boost the rural economy.
He urged the department to encourage youth participation through entrepreneurship schemes and ensure better linkage between farmers, cooperatives, and processing units to enhance value addition in the dairy and mutton sectors.
