Srinagar, Oct 11: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday inaugurated the second edition of the Kashmir Literature Festival, emphasizing the importance of literature in shaping informed perspectives and preserving historical truth.
Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor highlighted the role of writers and intellectuals in offering new visions to readers in a rapidly changing world. “We need to provide new perspectives and vision to meet unprecedented challenges and opportunities, while fostering a deeper understanding of nature, culture, and people’s well-being,” Sinha said.
He underscored the need for authenticity and research-based writing, urging authors to confront historical distortions. “Writers must do research and use critical proof to challenge and correct misleading historical accounts. During the colonial era and even later, some writers distorted our history to suit their ideological agendas,” he said, calling on contemporary writers to “provide accurate and factually correct accounts challenging those lies.”
