DRASS (KARGIL), Jul 26 (PTI):
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Vijay Diwas said that the recent surgical strikes under Operation Sindoor sent a strong message to Pakistan that terror supporters will not be spared.
“Operation Sindoor was a decisive response to the Pahalgam terror attack and a message to Pakistan. India mourned, but it also acted,” he said at the Kargil War Memorial.
He emphasized that India’s new normal is a strong, immediate retaliation against any threat to its sovereignty. The Army eliminated nine high-value terrorist targets in Pakistan with zero collateral damage, he noted.
Dwivedi said Pakistan’s actions on May 8–9 were met with a firm response, and Indian air defence stood as an “impregnable wall.”
Highlighting modernization efforts, he announced the approval of the Rudra Brigade—a combined force of infantry, armour, artillery, special forces, and UAV units—and the formation of the Bhairav Light Commando Unit for rapid cross-border response.
Every infantry battalion now has a drone platoon, and artillery regiments are being equipped with drone, counter-drone, and loitering munition systems. The Army’s air defence is also being strengthened with indigenous missiles.
He concluded by paying tribute to the Kargil war heroes, saying their sacrifice ensures the nation’s peace and dignity.
