Anantnag, Aug 23: Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo on Saturday dismissed rumours of school closures under the FET network, calling them “cheap politics” aimed at misleading people.
She said all institutions were functioning normally and she personally inspected several schools in the morning. “Nearly 51,000 students are studying in these schools. Their teachers, classrooms, and learning will continue without disruption,” she assured.
Itoo explained that since 2019, FET schools lacked proper registration and management committees. The government, she said, has arranged interim oversight until new committees are constituted and CID verification is completed.
Targeting the opposition, she questioned their silence during earlier crackdowns. “In 2002, when homes and schools linked to Jamaat-e-Islami were shut, no one raised a voice. Why this sudden concern now?” she asked.
Rejecting what she termed “frustration-driven lies,” Itoo reiterated: “We will not allow anyone to gamble with the future of our children.”
