SRINAGAR: Jammu Police apprehended two women from Rajasthan in the Miran Sahib area and recovered nearly one kilogram of a substance believed to be opium from their possession, officials said on Saturday.

According to officials, a police team from Police Station Miran Sahib, headed by SHO Inspector Jatinder Singh and working under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura Gurmeet Singh, was conducting routine patrolling on the Ring Road when the two women reportedly became nervous after spotting the police and tried to escape.

Their suspicious behaviour prompted the police team to intercept and detain them for questioning, officials said.

During interrogation, the women identified themselves as Pooja Rathore, wife of Kamal Rathore and a resident of Bhilwara, Rajasthan, and Anita Kanwar, wife of Azad Singh, a resident of Bhakliya village in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan.

Police officials said that a personal search of the accused led to the recovery of one polythene packet each containing a substance resembling opium.
