SRINAGAR: Over 90 residents from 20 families were evacuated late Friday after land subsidence damaged several houses in Panjnara village of Kotranka sub-division, Rajouri district, officials said.
The sinking, spread across nearly two square kilometres on a hilltop, followed days of relentless rain. Authorities, with SDRF and police assistance, shifted families to government shelters after widening cracks made their homes unsafe.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kotranka, Dil Mir, said all households were relocated along with their belongings. An SDRF team has been stationed in the area, and locals have been advised to stay alert for further damage.
Rajouri, particularly Kotranka, has faced continuous heavy rainfall for five days, raising fears of more soil erosion and landslides.
