Srinagar, Oct 9: The Supreme Court will hear petitions seeking the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood on Friday. The case, listed as item 17, will be taken up by a bench led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai.Advocate Soayib Qureshi confirmed the October 10 hearing, noting that the Union government has yet to file its response.During an earlier hearing on August 14, the bench—comprising Chief Justice Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran—had emphasized the need to consider ground realities, referring to the Pahalgam attack.The petitioners contend that the continued delay in restoring statehood undermines the federal spirit enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
