Anantnag, May 18: Acting against illegal narcotics cultivation, Anantnag Police on Monday destroyed poppy crops allegedly cultivated illegally in the Nowgam area of Verinag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

According to police, the action was carried out during a drive against narcotic substances in the jurisdiction of Police Station Dooru. The illegally cultivated poppy fields were identified and subsequently destroyed by the police team.

Police said that two cases—FIR No. 71/2026 and FIR No. 72/2026—have been registered under Sections 8 and 18 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Dooru.

Three accused persons have been booked in connection with the illegal cultivation, officials said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.

Police reiterated their commitment to continuing action against drug-related activities and appealed to the public to cooperate in eradicating the menace of narcotics from society.
