Srinagar, Oct 6 — Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has sounded an alarm over the worsening condition of Kashmir’s fruit industry, saying it has never suffered such losses — not even during the peak years of militancy.
In a statement on Monday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president blamed the government’s “inaction and mismanagement” for the crisis that has crippled one of the region’s most vital economic sectors.
“Our fruit industry has never suffered like this, not even during peak militancy,” Mufti said. “The highway closure, delayed government action, and skyrocketing transport costs have destroyed crops and livelihoods. Without urgent help, this backbone of Kashmir’s economy will collapse.” said Mehbooba Mufti.
