New Delhi:  A man from Delhi’s Trilokpuri was arrested for murdering his wife at a Prayagraj guesthouse during the Maha Kumbh festival to cover up an extramarital affair.

Ashok Kumar, a sanitation worker, took his wife, Meenakshi, on a pilgrimage on February 17. After checking into a homestay in Jhunsi the next night, he slit her throat in the bathroom, disposed of the evidence, and later claimed she had gone missing in the fair.

The crime was uncovered when police circulated Meenakshi’s photograph, leading her family to identify her. Suspicious of his father’s claims, her son Ashwin searched for her at the fair. CCTV footage, forensic reports, and Ashok’s inconsistent statements led to his arrest within 48 hours. He later confessed to planning the murder for three months to pursue his illicit relationship.
