Anantnag, June 2: Continuing its sustained crackdown against narcotics and illegal cultivation of contraband substances, Anantnag Police on Tuesday destroyed an illegal poppy crop cultivated in an orchard area of Verinag in south Kashmir.
The action was carried out during a joint inspection conducted by officials of Anantnag Police, the Executive Magistrate, and the Agriculture Department. During the inspection, authorities detected illegal poppy cultivation in the orchard and immediately initiated the destruction of the crop in accordance with the law.
Police have registered an FIR under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation into the matter is underway to identify all individuals involved in the illegal cultivation.
Reiterating its commitment to combating drug abuse and narcotics-related activities, Anantnag Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and share information regarding any instances of illegal cultivation of narcotic plants in their localities. Officials assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
