SRINAGAR, Apr 18: A massive fire broke out in Gousia Colony, Bemina, on Friday evening, severely damaging Madrassa Sabeel-un-Huda and two residential houses, officials said.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from the madrassa and quickly spread to the adjoining residential structures. Thick plumes of smoke and towering flames were seen rising from the buildings as panic gripped the locality.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the scene shortly after the blaze erupted and launched an intense firefighting operation. Multiple water tenders were pressed into service to bring the fire under control. Local residents also assisted in the firefighting efforts.
“Flames first engulfed the madrassa and then spread to two nearby houses. Firemen are trying their best to contain the blaze,” said an official on the spot.
The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known. No casualties were reported at the time of filing this report.
