April 29, 2025 – In a recent statement following the #PehalgamTerroristAttack, Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPA) President Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed strong condemnation of the attack and highlighted a shift in public sentiment across Kashmir. Azad, known for his political prominence in the region, spoke out about the growing anti-terrorist sentiments within the local population.
Azad, during his address, remarked on a significant development in Kashmir’s response to violence. “Earlier, people used to come to the streets only when the protests were leader-sponsored. This was the first time I saw people taking the initiative and coming to the streets on their own. People condemned the terrorist attack at religious places,” he stated.
The DPA leader pointed out that the protests in the aftermath of the Pehalgam attack were led by ordinary citizens, rather than being organized by political figures. This, Azad noted, was a reflection of a broader and more organic shift in the region’s stance on terrorism. He emphasized that for the first time, he had witnessed such a strong anti-terrorism sentiment among Kashmiri Muslims, particularly in relation to attacks on religious institutions.
