SRINAGAR: A devastating cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district has left at least 28 people dead, with many others feared missing. The disaster struck the Chositi area earlier today, unleashing flash floods and widespread destruction.
According to a senior police official, the incident prompted massive rescue operations involving the Army, NDRF, SDRF, police, and local administration. “Search and rescue teams are battling tough terrain and weather to locate survivors and recover bodies,” the officer said.
Additional resources, including helicopter rescue units and medical teams, have been deployed to intensify relief efforts. Authorities have urged residents to avoid the affected zone to ensure smooth rescue operations.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh have expressed condolences and assured that every possible assistance will be extended to the victims’ families.
