Srinagar, July 13: Marking the anniversary of the 1931 July 13 massacre, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the event as “Kashmir’s Jallianwala Bagh.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Abdullah said, “The people who laid down their lives did so against the British. Kashmir was being ruled under British paramountcy.” He condemned the marginalisation of the 1931 martyrs, saying, “It’s a shame that true heroes who fought British rule in all its forms are today projected as villains only because they were Muslims.”
He added that while people may be “denied the opportunity to visit their graves,” their “sacrifices will not be forgotten.”
