Srinagar, April 19:
The Meteorological Department has issued a fresh advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds expected to hit various regions over the next 6 to 8 hours.
The advisory urges the public to remain indoors and avoid venturing near water bodies, landslide-prone areas, or unstable structures during this period.
“A spell of moderate rain with isolated heavy showers, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds, is likely at several locations across J&K in the coming hours,” said a MeT official.
The official also reiterated safety precautions, advising people to stay inside or take shelter in safe locations to minimize risk.
Since Friday evening, many parts of Jammu and Kashmir have been experiencing heavy downpours due to an active Western Disturbance. The weather system is expected to strengthen further in the next 48 hours, potentially bringing widespread rainfall in the plains and snowfall at higher elevations.
The MeT Centre in Srinagar has specifically cautioned that some mid and upper-reach areas could experience significant precipitation as the disturbance progresses.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather developments and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
