Srinagar, July 28 — The spirit of literature is set to sweep through the valleys of Kashmir as the Chinar Book Festival 2025 returns from August 2 to 10 at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Srinagar. The event promises to be a grand celebration of words, culture, and linguistic heritage, drawing book lovers, writers, translators, and scholars from across the country.

This year’s edition will mark a historic milestone with the First-Ever Gojri Translation Workshop, aimed at preserving and promoting the Gojri language, spoken by a significant population in Jammu and Kashmir. The workshop is expected to open new doors for Gojri literature and enhance its accessibility through translations into other languages.

Adding to the festival’s cultural depth, a National Exhibition on the Ancient Sharda Script will be held, showcasing manuscripts, inscriptions, and research on the nearly forgotten script that once served as the primary writing system for Kashmiri and Sanskrit texts. In a bid to encourage inter-regional literary dialogue, the festival will also host a Tamil–Kashmiri Samvad, bringing together writers and linguists from both regions to explore shared narratives and cultural connections.

Organizers say the festival aims to serve as a platform not only for literary exchange but also for promoting Kashmir’s indigenous languages, historical scripts, and inclusive storytelling traditions.
