Srinagar, June 18:In a bid to boost tourism and counter negative perceptions, Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari on Wednesday flagged off a Shikara rally from the iconic Dal Lake, urging people across the country to visit Kashmir in large numbers.
Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Bukhari said the rally was aimed at sending a clear message that Kashmir is as safe as any other part of the country.
“We have organised this Shikara rally to tell the people of the country that they should come here in large numbers. Kashmir is as safe as any other part of the country,” he said.
The event also served as an expression of solidarity with the Shikara community, which has reportedly faced economic losses following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.“This is also to show our support for the Shikara community, who suffered setbacks after the Pahalgam incident,” Bukhari added. The colourful rally, featuring dozens of decorated boats, drew attention from locals and tourists alike, as political leaders, stakeholders in the tourism sector, and members of civil society participated in the initiative.
