JAMMU: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday convened a meeting with newly elected BJP legislators in Jammu to discuss the party’s strategy for the upcoming Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, scheduled to commence on March 3, party leaders said.

The luncheon meeting took place at Singh’s residence in Trikuta Nagar and was attended by Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Sat Sharma, Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma, and other senior party members.

Singh, who serves as the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, has been representing the Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency since 2014. He emphasized that the meeting was solely focused on shaping the BJP’s approach for the Budget Session, which marks the first such assembly gathering since 2018, when the PDP-BJP coalition government collapsed in the erstwhile state.

In last year’s Assembly elections, the BJP secured 29 seats, all from the Jammu region. However, the party suffered a loss in October with the passing of one of its elected members, Devender Singh Rana—just two weeks after the National Conference-led government took office in the Union Territory. Rana, who was the younger brother of Jitendra Singh, had been a prominent political figure in the region.
