The All India Congress Committee (AICC) will convene a session in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on April 8 and 9 to discuss challenges posed by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) “anti-people” policies, alleged threats to the Constitution, and the party’s future course of action, the Congress announced on Sunday (February 23, 2025).
In an official statement, Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal said the session will commence with an extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on April 8, followed by a gathering of AICC delegates on April 9.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will preside over both meetings, which will also be attended by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states, national office-bearers, senior party leaders, and other AICC delegates.
Venugopal described the upcoming session as a crucial platform for discussions and a reaffirmation of the party’s collective commitment to addressing public concerns while presenting a strong alternative vision for the nation.
Highlighting the party’s commitment to upholding the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and the Indian Constitution, Venugopal announced the launch of a nationwide public outreach campaign, Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Padayatra, which will run from January 26, 2025, to January 26, 2026. He emphasized that the AICC session in Gujarat—Mahatma Gandhi’s birthplace—would reaffirm the party’s dedication to his ideals of truth, non-violence, and justice.
The session follows resolutions passed at the Belagavi extended CWC meeting, titled ‘Nava Satyagraha Baithak,’ which commemorated the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s presidency at the 1924 Congress session.
