Srinagar, Aug 29: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the fourth consecutive day on Friday as landslides and flash floods blocked several stretches in the Udhampur-Ramban sector, officials said. The 270-km highway, the Valley’s only all-weather road link to the rest of the country, was hit on Tuesday after heavy rains triggered multiple landslides between Jakheni and Chenani in Udhampur district.

Traffic police have barred movement from Nagrota in Jammu towards Srinagar and adjoining districts until clearance is restored. Commuters from Katra and Udhampur have been asked to carry valid IDs for emergency passage.

Officials said nine other inter-district roads in Jammu region are also blocked, cutting off several villages in Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur. With the highway shut, over 2,000 vehicles remain stranded at Lakhanpur, Kathua, Jammu, Nagrota and Udhampur.
