Srinagar, Sept 24: Prof. Harish K. Gupta, former Member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and former Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, along with Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), today called on the Chief Minister.
The meeting focused on strengthening disaster preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir, with special emphasis on developing earthquake-resilient infrastructure across the region. The deliberations also highlighted the need for improved risk assessment and capacity-building measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property in the event of natural calamities.
Officials said the Chief Minister appreciated the suggestions put forth and stressed the importance of adopting scientific approaches to minimize disaster risks.
