BRO begins clearance in Rajouri; IMD issues fresh alerts

Srinagar, Aug 29: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Friday launched clearance operations in Rajouri’s Pir Panjal belt after heavy rains and flash floods triggered landslides, disrupting key road links, officials said.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings for the region. A yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning was sounded for Friday in Poonch, Reasi, Rajouri, Kishtwar and Udhampur. For Saturday and Sunday, an orange alert has been issued for Poonch, Kishtwar, Jammu, Ramban and Udhampur, warning of heavy rainfall.Meanwhile, authorities have ordered all schools in Jammu Division—government and private—to remain shut till August 30.
