New Delhi/Srinagar, May 1:
The Ministry of Defence has issued an advisory to media outlets in Jammu and Kashmir, cautioning them against providing real-time coverage of ongoing military operations. The advisory, circulated on Wednesday, highlights the potential risks such reporting poses to the safety of armed forces personnel and the success of military missions.
According to officials, the Ministry urged all media organizations to strictly adhere to the existing guidelines laid out by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting regarding the reporting of sensitive defence-related activities. The advisory underlined that premature or live reporting of encounters, troop movements, or counter-insurgency operations can jeopardize operational secrecy and endanger lives.
Media outlets have been reminded of their responsibility to uphold national security and avoid speculative or live reportage that could aid adversarial elements. The advisory comes amid heightened security activity in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, where anti-militancy operations are frequently underway.
The Ministry has not cited any specific incident prompting the advisory but emphasized the need for continued caution and journalistic responsibility in conflict-sensitive regions.
There has been no immediate response from local media associations regarding the advisory.
