PDP President Urges LG to Release Hazratbal Detainees, MLA Doda

SRINAGAR: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s administration to release those held over the Hazratbal shrine incident, including Doda MLA Mehraj Malik.Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Mehbooba said slapping the Public Safety Act (PSA) on an elected representative was “unjustified” and undermined democracy. She alleged Malik’s arrest was intended to divert attention from the Hazratbal episode.She cautioned that stifling dissent in J&K could have consequences similar to those seen in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
