Jammu, July 26: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Tariq Hameed Karra on Saturday demanded a special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to deliberate on the prolonged delay in the restoration of statehood and to formulate a unified political strategy on the issue.
Speaking to media persons in Jammu after returning from New Delhi, Karra said that the Congress party has been persistently campaigning across Jammu and Kashmir over the past six months to mobilize public opinion on the matter.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have waited long enough. It’s time for all political parties to come together and chalk out a collective response to the Centre’s continued silence on restoring statehood,” Karra said.
He stressed the need for a joint political front within the Assembly to press for constitutional and democratic rights of the people of the Union Territory.
