Safapora, July 22 — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday visited Safapora in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district to express his condolences to the family of a 28-year-old woman whose alleged murder has sent shockwaves through the local community.

The Chief Minister met with the bereaved family and assured them that the case is being thoroughly investigated. He pledged that justice would be delivered swiftly, transparently, and fairly.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy. The government stands with the family in their time of grief, and we are committed to ensuring that the truth comes out and justice is served,” Abdullah said during his visit.

The woman’s death on July 14 triggered massive protests in the area. Locals, along with family members of the victim, have accused a close relative of involvement in the crime. The incident has ignited public outrage, with residents demanding immediate and stern action against the accused.

In the days following the incident, hundreds of people, including members of civil society, took to the streets holding placards and chanting slogans demanding justice. The protests were largely peaceful but underscored deep community unrest and calls for accountability.

Police officials have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, and preliminary findings are being closely examined. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to unfold.

The case continues to garner widespread attention across the Valley, with rights groups and activists also urging authorities to ensure a fair and timely resolution.
