SRINAGAR: In response to rising cross-border hostilities, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday sanctioned emergency relief funds—Rs 5 crore for each border district and Rs 2 crore for all other districts—to enable swift local responses to the unfolding crisis.

The announcement was made during an emergency video conference convened by the Chief Minister with Deputy Commissioners of border districts. Emphasizing urgency, Abdullah instructed that the funds be released immediately, prioritizing vulnerable frontier areas for relief, evacuation readiness, and essential supply stocking, according to official sources.

The meeting, held amid increasing shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border, was attended by key officials including Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary Dheeraj Gupta, the Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu, and Deputy Commissioners of the affected districts.Authorities say the move is aimed at bolstering district-level preparedness and ensuring that administrative machinery is fully equipped to handle any emergency stemming from the border situation.
