JAMMU, April 27: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district have imposed a ban on the sale, stitching, and storage of army uniforms and combat-pattern dresses to prevent their misuse by anti-national elements.

The order was issued on Saturday by Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan, citing the imminent threat posed by subversive activities to public safety, peace, and security.

Under the directive, all authorized private firms and shops dealing in combat clothing must inform the nearest police station in writing about their authority to operate within 15 days of the order’s issuance.

Additionally, such firms are required to submit fortnightly reports detailing all sales of combat or khadi dresses, including the particulars of the Army, Paramilitary, or Police personnel to whom the articles were sold. Dealers must also maintain a proper register of these transactions, which will be subject to inspection by competent authorities.

The order mandates that combat uniforms should only be sold to bona fide members of the armed forces after thorough identity verification.

Tehsildars, Executive Magistrates (First Class), or police officers of the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector and above are authorized to inspect these records. Violators of the order will face legal action, the directive warned.
