Ramban, April 21:
In the wake of flash floods and landslides that battered parts of Ramban district, former Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah visited the affected areas on Monday to assess the situation firsthand.

Omar Abdullah made a stop at Kelah Morh on National Highway-44, where he interacted with stranded passengers and truck drivers who had been stuck due to the disruption caused by landslides and rising water levels. Many commuters were left stranded for hours as key stretches of the highway remained blocked.

Speaking to the media, Omar expressed concern over the hardships faced by the people and urged the administration to expedite relief and restoration work. “The scale of disruption here is severe. People need immediate assistance, especially those stranded without access to food or shelter,” he said.

The flash floods, triggered by relentless rain and sudden cloudbursts, have affected nearly a dozen villages across the hilly Ramban district. Roads have been washed out in several places, while temporary shelters and emergency services are being arranged for the displaced.

Omar Abdullah emphasized the need for better disaster preparedness in vulnerable regions like Ramban, calling for long-term infrastructure planning to minimize such crises in the future.

Meanwhile, rescue operations and relief efforts continue in full swing, with the district administration urging residents to remain vigilant amid ongoing weather instability.
