Poonch: Following a confrontation with terrorists on Monday night, the Indian Army has deployed additional troops and escalated joint search operations in the Lasana region of Surankote, Poonch district. The operations are being carried out in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police to prevent the terrorists from escaping.
The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps posted an update on X, stating:
“Op Lasana. Contact was made with #terrorists during a joint operation with J&K Police at Lasana, Surankote, last night. Additional troops have been deployed, and search operations are ongoing to prevent the terrorists from fleeing.”
The Romeo Force of the Indian Army also engaged in search operations in Poonch after the firefight with terrorists. One security personnel was injured during the exchange of gunfire near Lasana village, which lies along the National Highway connecting Poonch to Jammu.
Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and enforced enhanced security measures. Early morning images from the scene showed Army personnel conducting stringent vehicle checks, aided by a dog squad. Lasana village remains under heavy security as joint efforts by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police continue to block any escape attempts by the terrorists.
Amid the ongoing operations, the Indian Army reaffirmed its commitment to continue counter-terrorism operations across Jammu and Kashmir. “These operations will persist until the terrorists are eliminated,” declared Shridhar Patil, Director General of the Kishtwar-Doda-Ramban range. “The local population has provided full support, demonstrating excellent coordination between the security forces.”
In a separate development, on Sunday, security forces in Kishtwar seized weapons and supplies from three terrorists who were neutralized in the area. The recovered items included one M4 rifle, two AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, 65 M4 bullets, and 56 AK-47 bullets. Additionally, a cap, medicines, and first-aid materials were found. The authorities have reached out to Pakistan regarding the medicines, as stated in the official report.
