SRINAGAR: With torrential rain lashing Jammu and Kashmir, causing widespread disruptions and triggering a surge in fuel purchases, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, reassured residents on Sunday that there is no cause for concern regarding fuel shortages. He emphasized that petrol supplies in the region remain sufficient, urging people not to panic.
“The situation is under control. There is no shortage of petrol, and there is absolutely no reason for anyone to rush to fuel stations,” Bidhuri said, addressing circulating rumors.
Official data confirms that the Valley currently holds 5,205 kilolitres of petrol, enough to last for the next 17 days under normal usage. Diesel reserves stand at 12,735 kilolitres, sufficient for 26 days. The remarks came in response to growing anxiety among the public, evident in the long lines observed at fuel stations over the past two days, fueled by heavy rainfall and temporary road blockages.
Jammu and Kashmir has been facing continuous rain, which has caused waterlogging, transportation disruptions, and raised concerns about potential landslides, particularly along the crucial Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Tragically, three individuals lost their lives due to a cloudburst in Ramban district, where landslides have halted traffic along the highway. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, who visited the impacted area, expressed his condolences, calling the event “tragic” and assured that the government would provide full support to the grieving families.
