A teacher from the Government Higher Secondary School in Bhaderwah, located in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, has been arrested on charges of allegedly demanding sexual favours from a minor student under the threat of academic repercussions. According to reports from police officials, the accused allegedly told the student that she would fail her internal exams if she did not comply with his demands. He also purportedly promised assistance in securing admission to a medical college in Punjab in exchange for sexual favours.
The matter was brought to light when the student filed a complaint on April 16. Following an initial investigation, the teacher was taken into custody, and a formal case was filed at the Bhaderwah Police Station. The accused faces charges under Sections 74 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty), 75 (sexual harassment), and 78 (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code, in addition to provisions under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
